The 82nd Annual Academy Awards Sunday night taking place at Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, has found out the winners of 2010 Oscars.
Standing at the top of 2010 Oscar nominees was the Iraq war drama “The Hurt Locker” directed by Kathryn Bigelow in 2008.The film won 6 prizes including Best Picture, Best Directing, Film Editing, Sound Editing, Sound Mixing and Kathryn Bigelow was awarded with Best Director. With this award, Kathryn becomes the first female director to win Hollywood’s best prize for filmmakers.
“The Hurt Locker” is followed by “Avatar”- the 3D movies directed by James Cameron. This film together with the Iraq war thriller of Kathryn Bigelow was nominated with 9 awards. However, the film was knocked out with three awards in categories Cinematography, Visual Effects and Art Direction.
The female director expressed her thankfulness to women and men in military all over the world when stepping onto the stage to receive the Best Picture and said that “They are there or us, and we are there for them.
”
2010 Best Actor belonged to Jeff Bridges for his role as a washed-up country singer in “Crazy Heart.” The son of Dorothy Bridges could not help giggling and hooting when he received the statuette on the stage. He thanked his parents for turning him on to such a groovy profession.
Sandra Bullock, who has never nominated before, won the Best Actress for her role in “The Blind Side”- the true story of a woman whose family adopts an impoverished teen. The character helped her take over Meryl Streep in “Julie & Julia” who had been nominated more than 16 times. This is the first time Sandra was nominated and won such honor.
Christoph Waltz and Mo'Niquewon the title of Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress respectively in the films “Inglourious Basterds” and “Precious”. With this award, Mo'Nique is one of the few black actresses to be honored in the Academy Award besides McDaniel, Whoopi Goldberg, Halle Berry, and Jennifer Hudson.
Ben Stiller won Makeup Awards for his contribution in the 3D changer “Avatar”. He appeared on the stage with his face painted blue like a Na'vi alien from "Avatar".
With “Precious”, Geoffrey Fletcher became the winner of Writing (Adapted Screenplay) category for his script in this film.
A tribute to film legend John Hughes who died last year at age 59 was presented by Molly Ringwald and Matthew Broderick in the 82nd Annual Academy Awards.
